Internet Censorship in China

China’s has, it seems the biggest enterprises of government internet monitors- supposedly more than 2 million or 20 lac. The workforce behind the world’s most censored nation.

Surprisingly the world’s most populous nation spends heavily in controlling people’s access to web. Recently South China Morning Post published in October 2013 that the Great Firewall will be relaxing and will allow access to websites such as www.facebook.com and www.twitter.com  inside the special Shanghai free trade zone (and not whole of mainland china!). The intent being to make the travelers feel more connected to the external world and thus improve the business prospects.

A recent study (http://www.theatlantic.com/china/archive/2013/10/how-internet-censorship-actually-works-in-china/280188/) suggests that social media censorship is incredibly efficient in China.
Objectionable content is generally removed within 24 hours of their posting. No wonder it might employ 2 million human resources. Besides the government controlled censorship, private companies as well have to stick to the guidelines and employ staff to monitor web activity in the organization.

Sneak peak at Germany results:
  • -          88% of Germans are satisfied with their standard of living
  • -          85% think that by working hard they can get ahead in life

What is the US Government Shutdown of 2013

As for any other country, in US as well all the goverment expenditures must be authorized by the House, which is Congress (Congress consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate). If these provisions for funding the government operations are not authorized and provided for the government will simply not have sufficient funds to run. And eventually stop operations. This is what happened this Tuesday October 1st, 2013. The Government shutdown in the US of 2013 is such situation where congress was unable to come to a consensus over discussed bills and had to shutdown.

US Congress consists of 2 major political parties which are Democratic Party & Republican Party. Obama is a democratic president. This shutdown is caused due to both parties could not hold similar opinions over spending bill to fund the government. The two parties argued for over a week on Obamacare, the president's signature health care law. Republicans wanted that spending bill include anti-Obamacare amendments.

All the essential services including weather agencies, military, medical, air traffic etc. will continue to run except non essential ones.
