The Giant Umbrella - 5 Reasons You Should Know Why China is Dominating

Gone are the days, when China used to be number 1 only when we talked about largest population. Now China has its signatures on many accomplishments. If you want to know how to turn the global environment in favor you should look forward to China. Here I am compiling a list of 5 reasons which make China what it is today and put it as a great contender in a global leader’s position.

1 China is the biggest exporter country in the world. This is what you look around when you go shopping. The superstores or more aptly markets are just filled with things which wear a tag of “Made in China”. For year 2012 China had exports equivalent close to US$ 2 Trillion!
The shift from an agrarian economy to industrial economy paid off and now with China’s  dominance in manufacturing is worldwide. What is not made in China is a wonder!

2 China replaced Japan as third largest importer of fuel (2012) with fuel imports worth just close to US$ 580 billion no wonder China will soon replace US. It is noteworthy that largest importer is Eurozone which is a region. The ever increasing demand of fuel indicates fast paced development in terms of infrastructure in the country.

3 Military Force- With a whopping USD ~ 160 Billion spend on armed forces, China is only second to the US. As per http://www.globalfirepower.com/ ranking for Power Index for 2013 China stands 3rd after US and Russia.

4 China has 2nd largest GDP only after US. With a GDP at USD 2 trillion and a growth rate of 8 % it has highest percent growth rate in top 10 countries.

5 We often hear about 1 child policy of China & its increasing old age population. But what we do not hear about is the next generation of going to be youth. China has over ~ 270 million children under age of 15 which is only close to India at ~ 370 million. This encompasses the potential of young, educated, English speaking population which would pose a challenge not only to emerging economies but to developed nations as well when it comes to nation’s growth.

No wonders, China is considered to have potential of being a world leader in the future.

How Much Population is Working Full Time for an Employer Globally

What is one of the non-uniform trend in BRIC countries? This is the population to payroll ratio. Out of four countries Russia & Brazil stand out at 44% & 36%. In China 27% of the population is actively working full time for some employer, for India this number is at 26%.

What this might mean is Brazil seems to be running fast in providing a sustainable & competitive environment for people for development while China and India continue to do so amidst large population they have.  The situation seems hopeful for these countries- but they still have a lot to do.

The leaders in the list are Kuwait and Sweden with payroll to population ratio at 51% and 52% respectively.

African countries along with few Middle East countries lag the list with ratios as low as <10%. This indicates still continuing unstable political situations and lack of education infrastructure. Impact of Government Shutdown in the US

As per Gallup, now the most important problem faced by the US is a dysfunctional government (33% think so) and not the economy in general (at 19%). The other top problems are unemployment or jobs, federal debt/deficit, healthcare issues.

According to a survey conducted by Gallup in 7 Eurozone nations, people do not have faith in their financial institutions (such as banks). The highest confidence shown was by Portuguese people 40%. The other countries just follow - Germany 37%, Greece 17%, Spain 11%, Cyprus 11 %

Sneak peak at Germany results:
  • -          88% of Germans are satisfied with their standard of living
  • -          85% think that by working hard they can get ahead in life

What is the US Government Shutdown of 2013

As for any other country, in US as well all the goverment expenditures must be authorized by the House, which is Congress (Congress consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate). If these provisions for funding the government operations are not authorized and provided for the government will simply not have sufficient funds to run. And eventually stop operations. This is what happened this Tuesday October 1st, 2013. The Government shutdown in the US of 2013 is such situation where congress was unable to come to a consensus over discussed bills and had to shutdown.

US Congress consists of 2 major political parties which are Democratic Party & Republican Party. Obama is a democratic president. This shutdown is caused due to both parties could not hold similar opinions over spending bill to fund the government. The two parties argued for over a week on Obamacare, the president's signature health care law. Republicans wanted that spending bill include anti-Obamacare amendments.

All the essential services including weather agencies, military, medical, air traffic etc. will continue to run except non essential ones.
